Honestly, I feel like
betraying my commitment by skipping a lot of posts. I feel so sorry for that.
But it couldn’t be helped since these past 3 weeks there are a lot of things
happening in my life. My family were coming. One of my siblings held an event
at home so everyone was visiting us. My thought was so caught up on recruitment
because I had to undergo 3 interviews. My friends from another city came over.
So here I am trying to make time for this week blog post. I won’t talk about
serious topics like I usually do. I want to be a bit chill because I need a
break seriously. Therefore for this week post I want to talk about books, my
favorite lifetime bestfriend.
So guys, have you heard
about Goodreads Reading Challenge? If you are a fan and a member of Goodreads
I’m sure you know it. Basically, it’s a reading challenge about how many books
you read in a year. So in the beginning of the year I usually set how many
books I aim to read. For 2019, I aim to read 55 books. 5 books more than my
2018 target. And congratulations to myself. I completed this challenge in the
beginning of December 2019. I’m absolutely proud of myself. Eventhough 2019 has
been a really challenging year for me, I’m so glad that I keep being very
consistent on reading books. If someone out there asked me what my pride is I
would gladly say that it’s my reading habit.
In this post I’m going to
share what books I read so far in 2019. I’m going to divide them into some
categories based on questions I made myself. I don’t actually put all of those 55
books here because there are some books that I reread. So if you want to know
more about them please check out my Goodreads page. So, let’s get started!
1.
What
are life-changing books I read in 2019?
2019 has been a year in
which my life has changed so much. If I couldn’t handle myself so well, I’m
afraid I couldn’t have been where I am now. There are so many depressing
moments happening such as my mom was sick for months, my dad and I fought, my
siblings kept asking those annoying sensitive questions until I’ve had enough,
living together with my parents and family again is not easy at all, those
expectations are killing me, and bla bla bla. Thanks to mindfulness books and
some touching heartbreaking novels recommended to me. Reading them has helped
me overcoming those life hardships. So here are the lists of life-changing
books I read so far. There is no rank about these books. I just list them based
on which books I read first.
Mindfulness
books
I
read like lots of mindfulness books. But the one that really helps me
overcoming my life crisis is Thich Nhat Hanh’s The Miracle of Mindfulness. Surely guys, this book is amazing. This
has taught me to keep calm, peaceful, and be present by breathing consciously.
It might sound weird. But trust me, it’s very helpful and life saving.
Books
and Novels about Life
I
love reading biography, memoirs, and novels about significant figures. I
definitely learn a lot from their life stories and hardships. Becoming by Michelle Obama and Educated by Tara Westover are such a great
help for me to understand more about struggle and bravery of women. They
inspire me to be brave and compassionate. I also learn about politics,
religions, people, relationship, and discrimination from the books I listed
below. Reading them has never been in vain.
I love Dark Matter so much. That novel is impressive for sure. |
2. What are series I completed this year?
Not much but I’m proud of it. I accidentally
encountered Mirrorworld 2nd and 3rd
books by Cornelia Funke in ANYBOOKS app. They brought me so much memory of the
1st book so then I decided to read all of them. Suprisingly I finished them so
quickly so here I am waiting for the 4th book to be released probably next
year. Winternight trilogy by
Katherine Arden is amazing! These series are the first fantasy books with
Russian background that I’ve ever read. For me this trilogy has a special place
in my heart. It’s the 2nd trilogy that made me mesmerized and emotional after Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud.
3. Am I still into thriller?
Absolutely YES! I read some thriller novels
this year but I did it mostly in the beginning of 2019. The ones that really
gave me chill on my spine are In Cold
Blood by Truman Capote and Into The
Water by Paula Hawkins. I couldn’t imagine that In Cold Blood is based on real story. Into The Water is a difficult novel to read since it has so many
point of views but the story never failed me.
4. Did I read books recommended by social
media?
Actually some books I read this year are
recommended by some social media pages and influencers. I found them very good
so I thought I would give them a try. There are actually more than this but I
don’t put them here since they also belong to other categories I made above.
5. Do I have books I regret reading?
Sadly quite a lot. These books are actually
not bad. They got plenty of good reviews on Goodreads. They are just not my cup
of tea. I just couldn’t get something I could learn from them. Or some of them
are too confusing for me. So please don’t take this as a judgement. It’s just
my personal opinion.
6. Other books I haven’t mentioned?
They are all here. Do you see any books you
also read this year from this list?
I envy those who can read many books! Honestly, I also like to read but it is difficult to find the right time when I can sit back and enjoy my reading. Just like you, 2019 is also a very busy year for me. I hope I can receive some cool tips from you so that I can spend more time reading because , I have to admit, I am starving to read more!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog and having eagerness to read more Ristra! My tips are simple. Find the reason why you want to read more. After that, find the best time of the day that suits you well to read. Everything starts with intention I guess. Once you find yours, you have no reason to slack off reading. For me, my best time to read is before going to work in the afternoon. Morning and night are not my favorite time because in the morning I have another routine and at night I'm already exhausted so I prefer going to bed instead of reading. Everyone has their own time to read. Hopefully you find yours. Good luck!
