Jogjakarta, a special
city of million memories. Who would disagree with that? The vibe, view,
specialties, people, attractions, and cultures have taken everyone’s heart.
Yours? Haha my heart has been taken by this city since long time ago. I would
never get enough of it. Why? Like the others, I have uncountable priceless
memories there.
All my life, I’ve been
to Jogja for 5 times. The first time was when I was just 9. My parents took me
there to attend my first brother’s graduation in UGM. For a little girl who
never stepped out of Bali island for other city but Malang, going to Jogja was
really something. It took almost a day and a night to get there by bus. But, I
was so excited. I never stopped wondering how cool that city is. “Will it be
like what I watch on TV and my brothers’ stories? How about Malioboro and the
Mall? Is the fortress really that big and old?”. I still remembered the morning
I arrived at the bus station. I saw a lot of “laron” flying around the lamps.
At that time I knew I would love that city. Jogja is the lamp and I’m one of
the laron which is attracted to its light.
Where am I? :) |
Someone ever said it to me, if you’ve ever gone there once, you will go there again for the next times. I couldn’t agree more. In the following years, I went to Jogja again for various purposes such as attending my second brother’s graduation in Janabadra University, Senior High School trip, having a short holiday after competing in UNS Solo, and having 3 days escapism from routine with my coworkers.
No matter how many
times, with whom, or kind of purposes to be there, Jogja is still the same for
me. I like the way this city welcomes me. Eventhough, there are some new places
added, it still has the same atmosphere. It’s somehow calming strolling down
Malioboro street, seeing people walk by, listening to street musicians' melody and remembering about the past. It’s
reminiscing when I see the souvernir vendors offering their products. Bakpia 25
is truly nostalgic. It’s my favorite snack from Jogja. I feel like I’m taken to
the great time of history when I’m at the temple and touch the structure with
my hands. Old Dutch buildings never fail to amaze me and make my brain
wondering. Everything about this city is delightful. Everything it offers
always attracts me to come back.
My last visit to Jogja
revives my old dreams. I used to dream living in Jogja and studying in UGM for
my bachelor degree (Thanks to my
ingenious brother who inspires me to have this dream). But, I decided not
to live that dream because at that time I already got accepted in UB Malang.
Well, it’s all okay since I enjoyed my study in UB so much. If I have a chance
to study again, I will be glad to have it in Jogja.
This post would never
be enough to contain what I’ve been through in Jogja. Happy and sad memories.
Hope and despair. Love and heartbreak. Laugh and cry. Everything is there and
it will remain.
I hope I will come
back to Jogja and create new memories there. I don’t know when or with whom I will be. Well, let’s just hope for the best!
Thank you Jogja. You
will always be my favorite! Wait for me...

Uncanny feeling covered me when I was here... Glad I didn't have to climb to cross the street. |
