To be honest,
what comes to your mind when your teacher asks you to do some assignments when
you are in bad mood or you are already tired? Yeah, I know this question is
rather too straightforward for an opening. But, deep inside my brain and heart
I’m actually curious about it. Before I become a teacher, I’ve been a student.
And my answer would
be like, he is a teacher so I have to do that and I can get a good score from
it. Yet, how about students nowadays? Do they think it the same way as me?
I don’t think
so. Based on what I see and experience, most students nowadays have more
freedom. They can just tell their teachers when they don’t want to do what they
ask them to. They can complain and critic what they think as a burden. And they
even say something which is less appropriate to their teachers. I don’t want to
say it inappropriate because what they say is still polite but maybe they say
it to the wrong person. Maybe they just make jokes that’s why less
inappropriate is the correct expression to describe it. But not everyone can
handle those jokes. For some people it might be so rude. At the end, it will
really break the relation between teachers and students. Who knows what could
happen from jokes?
The point
that I want to emphasize is what’s going on inside the students’ brains when
their teachers are being so “annoying” with assignments or activities in the
classroom. Well, now I sound like a creepy psychologist but I need the answer
because now I’m in the position as a teacher and my students do that to me. I’m
not offended about what they did to me. I can understand that most of them are
tired because of school and other activities. So, when they get to the class
they seem exhausted already. And I’m as a teacher always ask them to do this
and that. Some of them who still have much energy left will do that right away
while the others will complain first and do it half-heartedly. I think some
students understand that it’s their responsibility to study. When they already
know that, I’m sure they put it as a priority. But, do they think that it’s
annoying to be always asked to do something in the classroom when they are not
in a good mood? What’s going on inside their mind? What do they think of their
teacher?
Well, if I
put myself in my students’ shoes, the answer would be much different. I think I
need to ask this question to my students later. Oh by the way, would you like
to answer it? The answer is going to be very helpful for me. Yeah, I need other
perspectives to understand human being.
