Izza’s Little Story in Malang

            Malang city is the second capital city in East Java. In this city, we can find so many interesting places to visit. Not only interesting place but, Malang city also avails interesting things to try. For me who have been living in this city for 9 months, Malang is like my second home after Bali Island. There were so many things that I could not forget about this city.

            First thing that I love from this city is its interesting place. My favourite place to visit is City Hall of Malang. I love this place because of the panorama. The panorama at City Hall is beautiful for me. There is a park in front of it that makes the panorama looks good. I still remember when I and some of my friends visited this park at evening. We saw the building of City Hall together and sat at the park. The red sky at the moment added some of wonderful view. Other my favourite places are Gramedia Book Store at MATOS and centre of Malang city and Wilis books market. When I lived in Bali, it was very hard for me to find a book store. If I want to buy some books, I have to go to Denpasar to buy it. Since I live in this city, there is no problem about go to book store again. I can go to book store whenever I want. Not only those three places but also Brawijaya University and MATOS become my favourite places to visit. As a student of Brawijaya University, I am so familiar with this campus. Every day I always come to there to studying and doing some activities such as browsing in internet and Kendo rehearsal. Not only for studying and doing some activities, but this campus also become the place to meet with all of my friends. When we meet each other, we are always chatting and sharing together. MATOS refers to Malang Town Square, this place is the famous mall in Malang city. In this mall, we can find so many shops and any kind of product. For me, MATOS is becoming the right place to spend my leisure time at weekend. I can find so many things that I have never seen and found before.

            Living in Malang is like living in big restaurant. There are so many restaurants which avail any kind of foods. From Indonesian food, Japan’s food and any kind of food from all over countries avail in Malang. Not only foods, but any kind of drink also avails in this city. Since I had been living in this city, I had had visited some of restaurant in Malang such as Warung Warna-Warni, Waroeng Steak and Shake, Saboten and my favourite one is Bakso President.  As we know, one food that became Malang icon is Bakso Malang. Bakso Malang is very famous in Indonesia. One restaurant that avails it is Bakso President. First time I went to this restaurant was when I was coming to Malang for joining UB’s test. I went to this restaurant with my family. For me the taste of bakso at there is very delicious. I have no doubt about that because Bakso President Restaurant is very famous for all of people in Malang for it taste. Artists who had been going to Malang also taste the bakso in this restaurant. If you visit this restaurant, you will find so many photos of artists who had eaten bakso at the wall of it. One important thing that you have to remember is the price of food in Malang city is very cheap. I think the food’s price in Malang is cheaper than in Bali Island. You can buy one bowl of chicken noodle with spend just 4,000 rupiahs. Not only the price of food, but the price of drink is also cheap. With spend just 1,500 rupiahs you can drink an ice tea.

            If you come to Malang city, you will find so many classic buildings. The classic buildings in Malang city are the inheritances of Dutch invasion. When Dutch invasion had happened at long time ago, many of the people who build the buildings used Dutch architecture. Until now, many of the classic buildings are still stand high and look good. One example of classic building that still exists until now is my grandmother’s house. My grandmother’s house used the Dutch architecture. When I still a child my mother said that my grandmother’s house existed since my grandmother still a girl. She said “This house is very special for all members of our family, so we have to take care of this house for the next generation”. Because of the importance of it, all members of my family take care of that house. So until now, it still exists and looks good. Other buildings that have interesting classic architecture are City Hall of Malang, houses in Ijen streets, church and mosque at centre of Malang city, Pelangi and Tugu hotels and many more. Those classics buildings are made as assets of tourism by the local government. Because of that, most of them are still taken care by the owner and the government itself.

            One interesting festival in Malang city that had become its icon is MTD or Malang Tempoe Doloe.  MTD is always held once a year. This year, MTD was held on May 2011, at Ijen streets. There are so much interesting things and food that serve in this huge fest. I and my friends had visited this festival together. We saw so many food courts that serve any kind of classic foods. Many of foods that served in this fest were the food that very rare to find this day. Not only the foods but we also saw and enjoyed the classic things that we had found at there. Many of old books and old coins were presented by the owner. I felt so excited when I had seen so many classics things in this festival. I think that I will visit and enjoy this exciting festival next year.

            Those are my little stories about Malang city. When you visit this city later, you will find so much fun and surprise. I am sure, you will like this city. You should try and see any kind of interesting things at there.
